E3 2008 Trailers Day 3
MotorStorm 2: Pacific Rift is looking really good so far. Looks like the variety of tracks will improve with jungles, more deserts / mountains / canyons, and other environments. Definitely one of the better racing games coming out this fall.
More Resistance 2 footage as this is the demo from the Sony conference of Nathan Hale shooting that huge monster as it slams him around. Pretty intense stuff...
Street Fighter IV is still my #1 most anticipated game and another video shows the focus attacks in action. I'm not a fan of some of the English voices (specifically Ryu and Ken), but everyone else seems fine. Hopefully playing this next week at Comic-Con if I'm actually going.
Rock Band 2 is also there at E3 and here's Ace of Spades being played.
Castlevania Judgment for the Wii is a weird game. First of all, it is the first Castlevania fighting game and it looks pretty ugly. I don't even know if the infamous characters look the same they were in their incarnations. A for effort for Konami to go outside the box for a Castlevania game on Wii, but it is something that fans probably don't need.
Killzone 2 is already looking good, but who knows if the gameplay can live up to the hype. So far, it seems that way and hopefully it will be consistently good by its February 2009 release.
Looks like Nintendo finally announced Pikmin 3 - Good for the Nintendo fanboys even though I'm not a fan of the series.
Gameplay footage of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows is interesting stuff especially for a Spidey game. The combat feels improved and more stylish with more flashy moves. The red/black suit change at the fly is an interesting idea too, so hopefully it will be executed well by the time of its fall release.
Dark Void continues to impress as another original IP by Capcom. Since they're on a roll this generation with their retail releases, I hope Dark Void continues that roll.
Oh hey, another Resident Evil 5 Trailer!! Then again, it is the same trailer with some alternate scenes revealing some new unknown characters that Chris and Sheva will eventually clash with. Still one of most anticipated games till its release on March 13, 2009.
Finally some gameplay footage of Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, a game I would still buy for the hell of it (I sort of did with MKA, but didn't like it too much). It is actually pretty good so far as Ed Boon talks about bringing back the gameplay to 2D MK games with the 3D graphics adding in the environmental moves, close kombat, freefall kombat, and the fatalities / brutalities (Scorpion's and Superman's are shown there). Definitely can surprise some people who think the whole concept is stupid and I might play it at Comic-Con next weekend.

E3 2008 Trailers Day 2
E3 continues running wild...
We'll start with the teaser for God of War III for PS3 and another reason I should buy this system (now the 80 GB PS3 will be 400 bucks soon which is affordable now!!). I loved the first two games and this conclusion will indeed deliver the goods.
The big surprise at the end of Sony's conference is the new Zipper game which is not SOCOM. Instead it is called MAG, Massive Action Game, a MMOS with up to 256 players at once playing together.
Wii Music was the conclusion of the Nintendo conference (currently watching on G4 by my Tivo) and I fell for Wii Fit and I'm not falling for this one - rather play Rock Band 2. The casuals will eat it up like crazy like they did with Wii Fit. Here's the demo with Miyamoto below (Prepare for emabrassment).
The big Ubisoft game at E3 is arguably I Am Alive which sort of has Assassin Creed-like buzz (blame Jade Raymond). The video itself is cool as it shows Chicago jacked up after an earthquake as the protagonist, Adam, tries to survive what's left of it. Supposedly, it is a first person game like Mirror's Edge, so hopefully it won't be as disappointing as Assassins Creed to some people.
Sony Online and DC are joining forces for DC Universe Online, which is a MMORPG for the PS3. Basically, it is City of Heroes with DC characters for now.
Wii Sports Resort was announced at the Nintendo Conference today and it will bundle with the new Motiom Plus add-on (I'm getting the N64 Expansion Pak vibe with this one). I'm buying this one because it is Wii Sports and who knows if people will buy this like crazy since the first was free with the Wii console.
Little Big Planet continues to impress on the PS3 as we continue to wait a long time. Finally it is coming out this fall and will be something special.

Guitar Hero: World Tour is still coming while I'm more hyped for Rock Band 2 and it does look like Rock Band now with all those charts in one screen - Blowout of videos below. I'm a fan of the new guitar's touch solo frets for easier solos hopefully. Also kind of weird that Rock Band instruments will work in World Tour like the drums considering the GH drum kit is way better I think.
The new Wolfenstein game is finally announced and here's the teaser for it (Got my Game Informer mag with this on the cover today too).
The Afro Samurai game looks stylish being cel-shaded and all even though I didn't watch the anime that much when it was on Spike TV. Definitely curious on how will this will turn out.

E3 2008 Trailers Day 1
E3 is off and running wild.
I'll start with a new WWE game called Legends of Wrestlemania. This clip showcases Hogan and Andre as u can use old-school wrestlers in old-school settings. I don't know why this game is happening even with Smackdown vs. RAW 2009, but it does seem like a spinoff of sorts.
Here's a new trailer for Mirror's Edge and it still looks awesome. Definitely keep an eye on this EA and DICE game.
I'm posting the FFXIII Trailer from earlier today again, but probably better quality from GameTrailers.
I'm excited for Uno Rush as more gameplay footage is shown. The fast and furious pace is a change from normal Uno even though online Ultimate Uno would be funny too.
This gameplay footage of Guitar Hero: World Tour was taken down on GameTrailers earlier. It definitely looks like Rock Band and I rather buy Rock Band 2.
The big announcement from the EA press conference is a partnership with id Software (Doom peeps) and they are publishing Rage, their new game based on their new graphics engine. It does feel like a teaser of sorts however.
More Mirror's Edge!!! Here's the gameplay demonstration from the EA Press Conference and the whole first-person experience is pretty amazing so far. Definitely a critical app if DICE pulls it off.
One of the most curious licensed games is the Ghostbusters game and it looks good for what it is. Definitely worth it for fans of the original movie and I think the original cast is fully back for this game.
This trailer for Saints Row 2 is kind of funny showcasing the customization the game offers. This is definitely the "gangsta" GTA and perhaps it will be the only one with GTA getting more real. I'm still on the fence on this one.
I'm digging the cel-shaded style for the new Prince of Persia as well as the co-op moves u can do with your lady partner. We'll see if the gameplay still stays true to the Sands of Time trilogy.
BioShock is finally coming to PS3 with additional exclusive content. It looks the same as the 360 version for me for now, but the new powers and enemies might be good enough for PS3 fans to witness one of the great games of 2007.
Infamous is one of the PS3 first-party exclusives I'm excited for because it reminds me of Crackdown, one of my favorite 360 games. It is pretty much Crackdown, but being a hero with special powers compared to some supercop. Definitely one of my reasons to buy a PS3.
Here's a teaser for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion where your Marvel superheroes can fuse together (DBZ style??) to be some superfreak. No gameplay is shown yet of how this works, but I'm curious about it now.
A slightly different trailer for UFC 2009 Undisputed is next and it still looks the same involving Forrest Griffin and Rampage Jackson. At least, they got the victor right.
Lastly, here's Resistance 2 and man some of those Chimera structures and creatures are huge. It definitely has that epic touch to it and truly one of Sony's big boys this fall.

Microsoft E3 08 Press Conference Recap
E3 is here and now in full effect as Microsoft draws first blood again this year with their Press Conference. After watching the whole thing online, I think 360 is in good shape again. Even with the early leaks, Microsoft still pulled it off revealing some surprises and one big one in the end. I'm going to run it down Bullet-style.
What struck me from the conference.....
I think Microsoft had another good E3 press conference despite what was missing. It is clear what they were focusing on for this briefing and delivered on that front. The new dashboard is impressive and the games will do the talking this fall too. Obviously, the FF XIII to 360 announcement shook the whole place apart and who knows what will Sony do counter it (I have a feeling Bungie will show a PS3 exclusive game).

Speaking of RPGs, a demo of Tales of Vesperia is out and since I'm not really into JRPGs, this one is not grabbing my attention. I would buy FFXIII however though.
- The conference starts big with a Fallout 3 demonstration. One of the big third-party titles coming out this fall on 360 from the folks that brought you The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. So far it looks good being a brief demo and all, but the gameplay felt a little awkward at first, but I guess it works well.
- Next demo is Resident Evil 5 showcasing the online co-op (Yes!!!!) and it is looking good despite being RE4 again gameplay-wise (even some of the sounds are recycled from RE4). Capcom also revealed a March 13, 2009 date as well (Friday the 13th).
- Peter Molyneux is next to show more Fable 2 (coming to October) in a brief demo showcasing the interaction elements with characters and whatnot. I'm still not buying this game.
- A new Gears of War 2 campaign level was by shown by CliffyB from Epic, which they were revealing co-op for the first time in this sequel. This level already feels better than any of the Gears 1 levels with scope and the size of Locust to defeat. Cliff also announced a new 5-player co-op mode called Hoard, which seems like a survival mode of eliminating the toughest Locust opponents as a team. A November 7 release date (a Friday) is also announced by Cliff too.
- Don Mattrick talks some business and numbers (blah blah blah....) along with a new partner for movies / television releases, which is NBC Universal. That means u can watch Heroes, Battlestar Galatica, and other Universal shows and movies on your 360.
- John Schappert is next to speak and reveals the new 360 dashboard (coming out this fall). It looks pretty sweet - totally a new facelift compared to the dashboard currently up.
- He also shows off the Avatars (their version of Nintendo Miis) and they are more customizable than Miis with appearance, outfits, and more. It is cool that Rare made it happen. I still wish gamerpics are still in for this new dash update.
- The Live Party functionality is pretty cool too (The Halo party system of sorts) on your 360. They can watch the same movie or TV show, or play the same game (Uno Rush announced = Yes!!) at the same time by one button click.
- Xbox Live Primetime seems interesting too which is their Game Show Channel of sorts. 1 vs. 100 was shown with Avatar support. Deal or No Deal is also planned for release for Primetime.
- Xbox Live Arcade announcements (I love XBLA!!).... Geometry Wars 2 finally shown and planned for release next month (more modes and 4 players in one screen is nuts).
- Galaga Legions also finally shown for the first time (also out next month) and looks amazing. This is definitely the Pac-Man CE for Galaga.
- GLADOS randomly speaks and announces Portal: Still Alive for XBLA release this year with new challenging levels (Awesome!!)
- A short teaser for a South Park XBLA game was also shown - Cool for South Park. (That's it for big XBLA announcements).
- XNA stuff now being shown and still coming out this fall (No Dishwasher footage in their clip).
- The heavily rumored Netflix partnership is finally official and that's good. Doesn't mean I would use it though.
- Rare games now being shown.... First was a new trailer for Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (I'm still excited). Then Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise was shown and it is definitely VP. Shane Kim also announces the original Banjo-Kazooie for XBLA release later this year (Yes!!! - I beat this game 100% on N64 and I won't mind doing it again for achievement points).
- Scene It! Box Office Smash is the next game up as it still has the 4 button controller and this sequel has Avatars support.
- Surprisingly, a new game is announced called You're in the Movies (by Codemasters) and definitely feels like a Eye-Toy ripoff doing mini-games acting crazy. It also has director-ish features of making short movies within what the game offers. This game will be bundled with a Live Vision camera (I have already one though... Doesn't matter I'm not buying this game anyway).
- Music games (Finally...) are the next thing Microsoft focuses on in this conference. This segment disappointed me a little bit (more on that later). First up was Guitar Hero: World Tour as some RedOctane guy talks some GH stuff with the custom songs and GH Tunes. R.E.M. DLC is announced as well as the whole new Metallica album at the same time of the album release on stores (Also coming to GH III DLC too).
- Lips (from the leaks) is next being shown, which is from the Elite Beat Agents guys. It is obviously a karaoke game (SingStar's major competition now) and it can use iPods and Zunes to play any song from those devices (that's cool!!). Randomly, Duffy performs "Mercy" with the Lips game and this will be out this fall (I might buy it).
- Rock Band 2 (Finally!!!) is last up for the music games as Harmonix mastermind Alex comes up to the stage to announce some stuff like the full track list (in my last blog post), RB1 disc songs and DLC playable in RB2, more bonus songs as RB2 DLC when it launches. Unforuntately, no gameplay footage shown of both GH World Tour and RB2 in this show.
- Finally, Square-Enix is last up to show some of their upcoming games (Kind of weird they're last - something fishy is going on). They announced Infinite Undiscovery release dates, Star Ocean 4 dates, and Last Remnant (brief trailer shown too) dates and a PC version (The ONLY PC announcement of the whole show).
- Don Mattrick closes out the show and the Squenix guy comes back up with a surprise.
- The first bombshell or "Megaton" of E3 2008 is here and it is Final Fantasy XIII coming to 360 next year!!!! A lengthy trailer was shown (my feed wasn't direct when the clip showed up) and I'm wandering how the hell Microsoft got this to happen. I can't believe Squenix is doing this (U.S. and Europe release only on 360 - no Japan release for 360). I'm pretty sure NeoGAF exploded when it was shown. Fanboy wars are going to be interesting this week.
- End of conference.

Rock Band Complete Soundtrack Revealed

Slice and Shoot... Too Human Demo Impressions
The long awaited demo for Too Human came out today on Xbox Live Marketplace to kick off their E3 festivies and it seems okay for what it is. The right stick combat / shooting can be a littlr clunky, but it does its job well when slicing and shooting enemies. I was a little skeptical about right stick attacks since some previous games used it well while some didn't. You will pull off random combos out of anywhere, but the satisfaction of leveling up and upgrading the skill tree is there. The loot and customization is huge as expected in a game like this, with skill points dividing to separate skills of increased damage or something else. I can see why Too Human is way repetitive as you slice, shoot, run, repeat for the duration of the game especially this demo. There are also times of like some seconds of gameplay then a cutscene almost going Metal Gear territory, but the story is supposed to be deep and the mythology as well even though this demo barely stratches the surface story-wise.
Graphically it seems fine with some instances of slowdown when things get hectic. The camera angles remind me of the God of War games especially in outdoor enivronements as it scopes out to see the world. The characters seem okay with Baldur having minimal talk in him, so it is clear he means business. The sound is also pretty good as expected for something like this with moody and epic battle music. After playing this demo, I'm still on the fence for the full game, but if you're curious whether or not Too Human is worth it, check out the demo and at least play it through once.
