Inception... Truly "The Movie of the Forever"

I just wanted to share some quick thoughts about arguably my new "Movie of the Forever" as NeoGAF loves to claim, which is Inception. Watching it in the morning was a good thing today because I never expected myself to be that mind f-ed by the time credits rolled bJy. Then again, leave it to Christopher Nolan to once again create another epic movie that is different from the rest of the movies out this summer and yet continue to amaze with the various concepts of dreams, mind, extraction, and most of all inception. These concepts when being demonstrated feel like reality of sorts on how they spin it even though it may seem like a dream, where also impossibility can become a possibility. Even though I was still mind f-ed by the end of the movie, everything that the crew goes through led by Mr. Cobb (played by Leonardo Dicaprio) makes complete sense when the epic job was taking place. I also want to acknowledge the superb acting by the cast throughout the movie as I felt no one felt obsolete from Cobb's sidekick, played by Joseph Gordon Levitt, Ellen Page (of Juno fame), Ken Wanntabe, and more. They really brought it making the movie seem believable despite all the craziness going on with their performances. I also wonder how philosophers, with me being a philosophy major, would think of the movie especially my classmates as perhaps another viewing or discussion can be considered. In the meantime, Inception is pretty much my favorite movie of the year so far as well as one of the best movies I have seen in years (probably since The Dark Knight, another Nolan masterpiece). Go out there and watch it if u haven't yet.

And yes, sometimes we have to dream a little bigger...

Music Roundup for 7/16/10 aka The Teflon Don Edition

This time on the music roundup features the one and only Rick Ross as his new album, Teflon Don, has been on repeat the past couple of days. I must say, this album has surprised me beyond my expectations turning to be one of the more impressive hip-hop albums of the year. Then again, there is actually some hype regarding this album since Rozay is on the up and up with the mixtapes, EPs, and other stuff. This 50 minute album is simply good stuff throughout with cameos on all the tracks from Jay-Z, Drake (no rapping by Drizzy though, which may be a bummer for Drake fans), Kanye West, T.I. and more. Other than Rozay doing his rap thing, the production of most tracks are the more impressive thing for me from "I'm Not A Star," "Aston Martin Music," and the first single "Super High" featuring Ne-Yo. As far as how hip-hop the album is, I think it is pretty diverse spreading across different forms since you will have some "gangsta" song, chill driving tunes like "Aston Martin Music" and "Super High," and others just based by the production alone. All in all, I enjoyed blasting this album and say you want to say about Rozay with what he has been through before this album comes out next week, but he has become of one of hip-hop's better mainstream artists with a lot of momentum on his shoulder now. Anyone that enjoys any form of hip-hop will like this album, so it is worth a listen or two.

Why James Bond 007: Blood Stone Will Be Better than GoldenEye 007 Wii...

I was a little surprised Activision still decided to go all out with a GoldenEye 007 remake exclusively for the Wii as if it is the only reason they got the rights for the license. After its E3 showing, it is too easy to write that game off for being some desperate attempt to bring back the nostalgia and good days of the N64 classic. Plus, only being on Wii also makes the game somewhat pointless being a FPS on Wii where it would fare better on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 due to the hardcore shooter audience there. Personally, I would rather wait for a Proper Bond game to come out and I got my wish with the announcement of Blood Stone for PS3 and 360 with a release apparently slated for this holiday season too.

Blood Stone could be the Bond game we have been waiting for since Everything or Nothing being a proper third-person game with shooting and vehicular sequences throughout. It is developed by Bizarre Creations, the folks that brought you the Project Gotham Racing franchise, The Club, and recently Blur putting all the rumors about them doing a Bond game to rest. Blood Stone also seems to apparently be the next movie, but who knows how that will go and perhaps it is a good thing it is only a game in the meantime starring Daniel Craig, Joss Stone, and Judi Dench. The third person shooting elements take some parts of Gears of War in terms of a cover system, some good CQC-like moments when beating people up, and a Splinter Cell Conviction-like Mark & Execute system for quick kills. Of course, since it is developed by Bizarre, expect the vehicular elements to impress as well with the experience they had in the racing genre and add along crazy setpieces like the recent Bond movies.

So Why will Blood Stone will be better than GoldenEye 007 Wii in terms of Bond games this year? Well, in a nutshell, it is the proper Bond game we have been waiting for years (Quantum of Solace doesn't count to me), a reputable developer is making the game, and it could the next best thing for the franchise than another movie, but who knows how the new movie is stacking up these days anyway. Who needs nostalgia to bring back Bond in a big way when there is something like this for those that prefer Bond doing more things than just shoot at dudes. James Bond 007: Blood Stone will be out this holiday for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 as so far it is shaping up to be a pretty good game despite the graphics looking questionable from we have seen to some people.

Music Videos of the Day for 7/14/10

Bruno Mars - "The Other Side" feat. Cee-Lo & B.o.B.

His Its Better If You Don't Understand EP is pretty good too, so check that out as well.

"Beautiful Monster" by Ne-Yo. After watching it, I was like oookkkaaayyy... (below, oh a two parter!!!)

"Champagne Life" by Ne-Yo - Okay, its the better song and video, but I understand why he is going for a multi-part deal with these videos for his new album Libra Scale. It seems to be the hot thing these days for R&B music videos these days now if you also seen The Dream's trilogy of videos of his Love King album.

Other Videos of the Day... aka The Combo Videos of Evo 2K10

I haven't talked about Evo 2010 much on this blog than I should, but we all know Daigo won the Super Street Fighter IV tourney followed by Ricky Ortiz from NorCal being the runner up (congrats to him). I also gotta give shout outs to my friends from SoCal repping at the event especially Mike Ross finishing 4th and Shizza finishing tied for 7th (GS guys!). In the meantime, two new Maj videos premiered at the event last weekend with the one above being a crazy fireball battle compilation of various fighting games and the one below being a combo video filled with fighting games over the years of the genre's existence. Enjoy...

Music Video of the Day for 7/13/10

Usher - "There Goes My Baby"

Good thing he decided this song to be the next single. Perhaps a lot of people of getting sick of "oh oh oh oh my gosh" on the radio these days.

Music Roundup for 7/8/10 aka My Top 5 Albums of the Year so far...

We are pretty much halfway through 2010 so far and I haven't much blogging about what I have been listening to or other things regarding music, so I might as well write about my top five albums of the year so far in no particular order.

M.I.A. - /\/\ /\ Y /\

I have been looking forward to this album for a while because I know she brings the crazy and the unorthodox style to the music fold. Also known as Maya, M.I.A.'s new album is as different as you expect from her even though some would say it is not really her strongest effort compared to her previous albums. In my mind, it has been under the radar for a while because of the Lady Gaga takeover and such along with M.I.A. having a baby in the past year as if that Grammy performance of "Swagger Like Us" with Jay-Z, Kanye West, T.I., and Lil' Wayne was any indication. This is pretty new as it is actually out next week, but after a few listens I have enjoying it so far as I always appreciate "Different" things in the world of music today. Current favorites for me so far are "Steppin Up," "XXXO," and "Born Free," which are most of the songs she put out so far before the rest of the album releases.

Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

In the past week, this is quickly becoming my favorite album of the year. Sometimes you just gotta stick to your roots and your certain sound of music which is what Big Boi did with his new album. He does not need to experiment with other forms of music having an obligatory song for the clubs that is all techno or electronic. This is to me Atlanta hip-hop at its finest as he delivers once again with bangers throughout the album along with collaborations with T.I., Janelle Monae, B.o.B., Jamie Foxx, and more. From beginning to end, it is a banging album with your mix of heavy hip-hop tunes from "Daddy Fat Sax," "Shutterbugg," (the first single off the album and video above), "General Patton," and "Tangerine" featuring T.I. Even the slowed down tracks are great like "Be Still" with Janelle Monae. Of course, all of this makes you wish the Outkast reunion would go down in the future with Andre 3000, but that remains to be seen even though the bonus tracks feature him, which is as close as it gets for it to happen. If you are tired of hip-hop getting all clubby and fancy, Big Boi's latest album sticks to what hip-hop was before it got all techno-y, and that alone makes it one of the best albums of the year and my favorite so far.

Gorillaz - Plastic Beach

The Gorillaz album for me was also another highly anticipated one because I'm a fan of the band. Demon Days further escalated them to the mainstream with "Feel Good Inc." still being played on radios today, but their latest album is also pretty good living up to their unique sound along with bringing back the animated characters in their music videos that consist of continuous storytelling. "Stylo" was a great first single for them along with one of the better yet simple music videos of the year featuring Bruce Willis chasing them down. Some of my personal favorites along with "Stylo" are "Rhinestone Eyes" and "Superfast Jellyfish." More Gorillaz in my mind is a good thing as Plastic Beach is among my favorite albums of the year so far.

Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid

One of the more impressive albums of the year and also at the top of my list is Janelle Monae's debut album. This came out of nowhere for me as one of the sleepers along the mainstream realm of music, but damn this album is too good. Being a new artist in the game can be tough to make a first impression but Monae has done it big with her breakout song, "Tightrope" featuring Big Boi (video above). Her style of R&B and soul music has been unmatched by anyone else I have listened this year as if she is in her own league from the album's beginning to end. She has been one of those artists to watch for a while and I think she has been worth the hype being a breathe of fresh air to the R&B/Soul game. The album's first half is among the best thing I have heard so far from "Dance or Die," "Faster," and "Locked Inside" in that exact order as it goes to tell she is here to stay in the music world. I actually hope she has a bright future in the music industry as it is rare these days to find new artists that would stick out from the norm delivering musical experiences unlike no other.

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

Last, but not least, is LCD Soundsystem's latest album and I do love LCD Soundsystem even though I heard them more on various soundtracks of video games in the day from SSX On Tour (I think), the Burnout franchise, and more. It also has I think the best opening track of the year with "Dance Yrself Clean," an eight minute opus that starts all calm and relaxing, then bam the crazy beats kick in halfway. If only I saw them live at Pomona last month which would of been sweet, but oh well. This is so far the Electro-Rock album of the year for me so far, so if you want your fix that genre of music, you can't do wrong with LCD Soundsystem's latest.

That's it for my top five albums of the year so far. I would likely do an end of the year post with ten in mind like last year as these five would definitely make the top ten. I was thinking of honorable mentions for other albums I have listened to like The Chemical Brothers' latest, Further, and of course perhaps the most anticipated album of the year in many people's minds, which was Drake's Thank Me Later, turned out to be a disappointment for many but I still liked it. Other honorable mentions and recommend to listen to are The Roots's latest, How I Got Over, Reflection Eternal's Revolutions Per Minute, and of course Usher's Raymond vs. Raymond. Of course I do need my clubby music fix here and there as new albums from Lil Jon and Kelis fit that bill for me. There is still the second half of the year of music to experience as I'm looking forward to obviously Kanye's latest, N.E.R.D., and arguably most anticipated of the year now, Daft Punk's soundtrack to Tron Legacy. In the meantime, enjoy my recommendations above.
